So, there's this guy (super cliche, i know) and we are practically dating (he told me he is going to ask me out this weekend when we get to see each other in person). We go to the same college and have hooked up a few times. I started talking to him first because I thought he was cute and he started to like me after that. He is really awesome, a great friend, someone I can talk to about anything! We also have pretty good chemistry and he treats me well (and he is an AMAZING kisser). I really like him and I do want to date him. There is one problem though: He is a little clingy. In most of my experiences, clingy guys tend to settle down once you make things official. He probably will not feel the need to text me every single day. However, he has been offering to buy me things. Gifts. We have only known each other for about 3 weeks! He also just invited me to go to the city with him for a weekend, which I declined. It seems way too fast for me! I don't know how to tell him this. If I say that I want to take things slower, he might assume I do not want to go out with him. Would it be weird to say, "I want to go out with you, but you are taking things a little too fast. It is way too early for you to buy me gifts and for you to invite me to spend a weekend in the city with you."? What can I do??? |

Merry Christmas everyone! Yes, I am late in posting this, but that's because I did sooooooo much baking and then had to share! :)
I baked a ton of cookies! Including my theme cookie, Chocolate Peppermint! Mmm! This cookie is so time consuming but totally worth it! It's always requested for holidays :)

| Christmas Baking - Florentines! |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|11:43 pm] |
I decided to bake for people this Christmas, totally forgetting that this would require chaining myself to the kitchen for the few days leading up.. Lots of muttering & dried fruit later I came out with some half decent looking presents! I've never made Florentines before, so this was a first for me & I think they turned out ok.. They didn't hang about for long anyhow!

.. I wish I'd got a better photo of them, but they'd all gone!

| Lunar Festival Cake |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|12:30 pm] |
I recently auctioned off a custom-made cake as part of a fundraiser. The winner asked me to make a cake for last week's Lunar Festival, based on a picture he gave me. Here's how it turned out:
Not as perfect as I'd have liked - not least because it cracked across the middle - but overall, I'm pretty proud of it. |

| Peanut Blossom Cookies |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|10:49 am] |
This is such a fun recipe to make with kids. There's making the dough, rolling the dough into balls, rolling the balls in sugar, and then squishing in the chocolates. My daughter loved it. And the cookies taste so good. They were still soft and delicious the next day.

So, I cook at a retirement village and every day I have to bake for morning and afternoon teas in addition to the regular meals. This is honestly the most exciting part of my job, but I have one tiny problem. We have 8 diabetic residents, and I always run out of time/energy/creative power and end up giving them peanut butter and sugar free jam sandwiches for tea. I feel really bad about this! So what I need are some tasty and quick recipes for diabetic-friendly baked goods.. |

| 16 & 19 |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|03:03 pm] |
I just got asked out by a very good friend of mine who I like alot. He's really awesome, one of those people you can do pretty much anything and still have fun (including pushing his car down the street after it broke down haha). I'm really happy about it.
Problem: I'm 16. He's 19. My parents are not gonna like it.. My Mom already knows and says she'll be open minded about it but I know she isn't thrilled. She likes him, knows hes a good guy and that there won't be any problems. Only thing she doesn't like is his age.
I'm honestly scared to tell my Dad. He's not an open minded person at all, and he hasn't met him yet. Any suggestions as to how I can talk to him and have him at least give him a chance? |

| Recipe request: Apple[sauce] cupcakes |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|12:35 pm] |
I need a recipe for apple spice cupcakes - but they need to have applesauce in them, not chopped apples, in order to save time and cut costs. All the recipes I've found so far either use chopped apples, or do have applesauce but are more like muffins. I could just take my pumpkin spice cupcake recipe and mess around with it a bit, but I wanted to try this first. Thanks guys. |

| Showy recipes |
[Dec. 29th, 2009|10:52 pm] |
I want to back something for New Year's Eve. I'd prefer it to look showy and special but don't want to rely on foundant for the looks. I'm a good cook so complex isn't an issue. I'd like it to be a cake rather than cookies. Any suggestions? |

| Selvedge Needlebook |
[Dec. 30th, 2009|10:14 pm] |
I made this needlebook yesterday for my mum (I won't be seeing her until February so I get a little more time to make her gifts!) from selvedges cut from the ridiculous amount of fabric I own. I love it, the only thing I wish I'd done differently is to have a opaque button instead of a transparent one.
If anyone's interested in making one of their own I posted a full tutorial here on my sewing/craft blog. |

| No baking powder/soda? |
[Dec. 29th, 2009|08:16 pm] |
I'm dying to bake something, but am currently lacking ingredients. I have flour, sugar, things like peanut butter/chocolate chips/fruit etc, but no baking soda or powder. Can you possibly recommend some recipes that don't require baking soda/powder? I know that it sounds silly, but I really want to bake, haha. |

| Chocolate Buttermilk Sheet Cake with Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting |
[Dec. 29th, 2009|03:34 pm] |

I hope that everyone had a fantastic holiday season. Kramer and I celebrated with my parents on Christmas Eve, then had a Festivus breakfast yesterday morning with his dad, his dad's girlfriend, and his sister. My parents gave Kramer and I tickets to Rome for our honeymoon and these awesome union suit pajamas (pictured are my brothers, Dane (19) and Wyatt (16), Kramer, and myself). My brothers also got me the Tracy Morgan autobiography, I Am The New Black, which I'm really excited to read! Kramer's dad (check out his golfing blog, Journey to St. Andrews) got me a bread-maker (which I will be putting to good use very soon) and a pasta roller attachment for my KitchenAid mixer! You can all thank him for the inevitable carb-o-loading you'll soon be witnessing on here.
When I originally found this recipe, it was advertised as a recipe for buttermilk brownies. Interesting, I thought, I've never seen a brownie recipe that used buttermilk before. That's probably because this recipe ended up being for cake and not for brownies. As I added the flour into the wet mixture, I knew it was much, much too thin to ever be brownie batter. No matter, though, because there's nothing wrong with rich, moist chocolate cake! The buttermilk made a big difference in the texture and taste of this cake. It was so tender and the crumb sticks perfectly together while still being light, fluffy, and delicate. The frosting is ridiculously simple and is as good as it is easy to make. If you need something quick to whip up for a New Year's party, this is the thing! Just slice into small bites and place in muffin liners for clean, easy snacking. If you haven't had a fantastic piece of chocolate cake in a while, let me help you out: make this today! Recipe after the cut or on my blog at The Crepes of Wrath.
